Novena 2012

64th Annual Novena to the Blessed Virgin Mary of Mount Carmel

Sunday, July 8th - Monday, July 16

Dear Child of Mary,

With Our Lady of Mount Carmel, we invite you to come to the Carmel for the nine days of her Solemn Novena.  Carmel is a holy place and one that belongs entirely to Our Lady.  She will be looking for you, her beloved children, and wants you to find her always.

During these nine days of prayer, we will begin each evening at 715 praying the Rosary as Mary requested.  Our Mother always takes us to her son and she does that during Benediction when we adore Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament and receive his blessing.   At 8:00p.m., we will go with her to the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass when e receive Jesus in the Eucharist.  Each evening we will hear different priests from the Archdiocese speak about Mary's life, she will lead us to her Son through her example.

As your Mother, Mary wants you to come to her. She wants to know your joys and your sorrows.  Jesus has given her to us to watch over us in this life and to bring us safely hoe to Heaven.  When we stay close to Mary she will keep us close to her Son.  We might sum up this message with the folowing prayer to our loving Mother:

O Mary, hold me in life for you are my safety.  Always, keep my eyes look for you!

Redemptoris Mater

The theme for this year's Novena is Blessed John Paul II's encyclical "Mother of the Redeemer" given to the Church in 1987.  In this twenty-fifth anniversary year of it's publication, let us look again, as Pope John Paul II wrote in his introduction to the rich and evocative teaching of Vatican II on Mary, emphasizing her role as a model of faith, hope and charity for all Christians, and her important place in the saving work of her Son.
