Saint Teresa of the Andes

Letter 138, The Divine Office

”I would like to speak to you of the Divine Office.  You know that it is the incessant cry that the Church raises to God.  We, the contemplatives, are those entrusted with crying out for the world.  When we are in choir, we’re already like the angels who praise God.  We form part of that angelic choir, and our antiphons are stanzas of that pure and divine poetry.  At those times are we not like the angels who sing in the presence of the tabernacle and console Jesus in His sad prison?  Jesus also sings with His Carmelites.  He raises up to His eternal Father, together with His brides, that pure and suppliant cry for the world.”
